Frozen tater tots cook up extra crispy and golden in the air fryer in about 15 minutes. Keep them in a single layer and shake the basket halfway for even browning. Finish with salt while hot for the best texture and flavor.

Equipment

  • Basket-style air fryer
  • Tongs

Ingredients

  • 1 pound frozen tater tots cook from frozen; Ore-Ida recommended for best texture
  • nonstick cooking spray light coating for the basket
  • salt to taste; add while hot

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 400°F for 3 minutes.
  • Lightly spray the air fryer basket with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Add frozen tater tots in a single layer; do not stack.
  • Cook for 8 minutes without opening the basket.
  • Shake the basket firmly to flip and redistribute the tots.
  • Cook for another 7 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
  • Remove immediately and season with salt while hot.
  • Serve right away for the best texture.

Notes

  • For extra crispy tots, add 2 minutes at 410°F after the main cook time.
  • Keep tots in a single layer for even browning; overcrowding leads to soggy results.
  • Every air fryer runs differently—start checking at 13 minutes if yours runs hot.
  • Season immediately after cooking so the salt adheres well.
  • Variations: sprinkle seasoned salt after cooking, or top with shredded cheese and bacon bits for the last 2 minutes.
  • Reheat leftovers at 380°F for about 4 minutes, shaking once halfway.
